So, while I lived in Florida, I never gave Carl Hiaasen a second thought. I respected him, as a novelist and as a newspaper columnist for the Miami Herald. I wished him well in his quixotic effort to use humor to bring his fellow citizens to their senses. Hiaasen is a Florida native who loves his state despite everything that’s happened to it in his lifetime, and the coolest thing about him is that he almost never loses his temper....

Hideo Kojima is well known for his games’ highly cinematic qualities. From the complex plots, and extensive use of dialogue and cutscenes, to more recently, the attention to photo-realistic environments and the hiring of big-name actors like Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen in Death Stranding, Kojima’s love of film is constantly on display in his titles. When Comet 46P/Wirtanen shot by our planet two-and-a-half years ago, scientists had just completed a major upgrade to a telescope at the Keck Observatory on Maunakea in Hawaii. This allowed them to gather data on the comet using a process called spectroscopy, which can reveal important properties of any body which emits or absorbs light. The data revealed that 46P/Wirtanen “has one of the highest alcohol-to-aldehyde ratios measured in any comet to date,” Neil Dello Russo, co-author of a study into the comet’s composition and a cometary scientist at Johns Hopkins University, told the Keck Observatory....
