Skyrim challenges players from the beginning. With numerous activities and Skyrim’s collection of side-quests, The sheer amount of content in the title drives some players to enlist the help of a follower on their journeys throughout the landscape. Due to the ease with which players can meet her, Lydia is a common choice. And, fortunately for fans, that leads to some content that is truly hilarious.

Reddit user NumptyGoo posted a video to the Skyrim subreddit titled, “Thanks a lot, Lydia.” The title is aptly named, for the video shows the player in a slow motion takedown of a mountain troll, only to be punctured by an arrow. The camera then pans to the side to reveal Lydia staring at the character, bow drawn. This incident is one of many in a long line of injuries that Lydias have inflicted upon characters, but the others are not half as comedic. One of many dislikable NPC’s, similar to Skyrim’s Nazeem in Whiterun, Lydia’s amusing failures are certainly welcomed by fans.
Lydia is only one of multiple followers in Skyrim, though, that sometimes have difficulties. Serana, from Skyrim’s Dawnguard add-on, is another NPC that players have found to be difficult. And, for some of the game’s most difficult encounters, a follower can help divert damage away from players. Whether it be fighting Alduin or the Ebony Warrior, sometimes NPC companions can be invaluable. Fortunately, that allows for funny moments even after more than a decade of play.
While the future of The Elder Scrolls is unclear, players can find comfort in the knowledge that Skyrim’s epic gameplay still offers laughs and new experiences after so many years. And, given Skyrim’s endless replayablility, players will always be able to return and have new adventures with new characters. Hopefully, as passionate fans continue to play, there will be more content that amuses players and showcases The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim’s unique and powerful gameplay mechanics.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
