Although the latest generation of Pokemon titles have been notorious for their jarring performance issues and bugs, many fans have been surprised over how much they’re enjoying the new games regardless of the widely-criticized issues. Fortunately, though, it seems that the games’ many bugs are more likely to lead to some outright ridiculous moments rather than any real problems. Strangely enough, the brand-new Paldea region has proven to be especially dangerous when it comes to cliffs and ledges, with many players sharing many clips of NPC characters slipping off of cliffs and even wild Pokemon falling on top of players from cliffs overhead throughout the rich and open world.

Sure enough, a fan of the games by the name of GalaxymasterNL made a post on Reddit recently showing off yet another cliff-related accident in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The attached video focuses on the player and their team of Pokemon enjoying a picnic near a ledge, which is a new feature similar to the camping minigame that was available in Sword and Shield. Picnics in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allow players to relax for a while and spend some quality time with their Pokemon, where they can play with their Pokemon, wash them, and even share sandwiches with them which grant a variety of helpful powers. In this case, however, the player was more interested in baiting one of their Pokemon to walk over the edge of a cliff after tossing the ball at the town below during a game of fetch.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been particularly appealing to a lot of players thanks to the clear effort the games make to stray away from the traditional Pokemon formula, at least in some respects. Many of the gameplay features in particular have been overhauled to fit the new, truly open-world environment that the games take place in. That said, though, it’s the same optimistic new gameplay features that have led to a lot of the hilariously-timed moments – and glitches – that players have encountered.

Although characters and Pokemon falling off cliffs may be amusing to watch, the excessive glitches, poor graphics, and performance problems that the games have faced have been enough to shatter immersion for a lot of players setting out on their journeys across the new region. Pokemon critics haven’t treated these shortcomings kindly, with Scarlet and Violet receiving the lowest score on Metacritic out of any mainline Pokemon titles.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
