Minecraft has managed to become one of the most popular games of all time and continues to delight its audiences with updates. The sandbox nature of the title allows players to essentially create whatever they like, with some contraptions being incredibly complex. Others break out of the boundaries of the game, creating custom mods like this one to further alter the way the game looks or works.

This particular Christmas spirit mod turns Creepers into Santa Claus, complete with hat and snowy beard. The mod, created by Reddit user JayCubTruth, replaces the default skin for all Creepers, so once installed, players are bound to run into a Santa or two. However, as any Minecraft player knows well, Creepers can turn a good day into a bad one by exploding and destroying nearly everything near them, including creations and the player themselves. As the behavior of the Creepers remains unchanged with this mod, gamers are likely to have Santa ruin their day or get jumpscared by the not-so-jolly elf, complete with “Player was on the naughty list!” flavor text upon their defeat.
Fellow Minecraft fans are praising the mod, with many suggesting that the modder take it further. Some have recommended that instead of the usual hissing noise that Creepers make, it should instead emit jingle bells or a ‘Ho Ho Ho’ as one would expect from a Santa Claus. One joked that the Creepers should drop coal instead of their usual gunpowder. Overall, it seemed the concept of a punishing Santa Creeper is a popular one, and the mod is available to the public for download, so anyone can give it a try.
While this time of year features many seasonal festivities that people participate in the real world, a lot of it carries over into gaming worlds, as well. Players often spend this time hard at work making Christmas and other holiday decorations and creations in games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Minecraft has seen many more holiday creations over the years, including the recent rendition of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” with various in-game assets and NPCs. Many other games feature special holiday celebrations in-game for players to participate in, ranging from Overwatch to Grand Theft Auto Online.
With a few weeks left to go before Christmas, chances are this won’t be the last holiday Minecraft creation to surface and gain popularity. And with so many mods from prior years, players can build a very spirited holiday for themselves in Minecraft if they so choose.
