RELATED: Minecraft Should Experiment With More Mob Variants.

Some are friendly non-playable characters (NPCs) while, others are hostile. Ultimately, though, they all serve to make the playable environment feel lived-in. They can also provide some meme-worthy situations, as evidenced by these hilarious memes about video game mobs.

7 Harvest and Plort Until It is Done

In the crossover nobody knew they needed, Thomas Gass on imgflip.com smashed together Id and Bethesda’s Doom 2016 reboot with indie developer Monomi Park’s Slime Rancher: two games that couldn’t be further apart. Doom is about slaying hordes of demons after experiments by the United Aerospace Corporation open a portal to Hell on Mars. Slime Rancher, on the other hand, is about a girl raising cute slime creatures on a distant planet to cash in on the precious gems (plorts) that they produce when fed.

This meme transposes the Doom Slayer point of view on a slime farm, with the caption “Harvest and Plort Until It is Done.” This is a riff off the message that Doom Slayer receives soon after awakening from his tomb from UAC Chairman Samuel Hayden, “Rip and tear until it is done.” Doom guy is in an awkward spot when he finds that the mobs he confronts are too adorable to destroy.

6 A Tarr mob is “Among Us.”

Speaking of Slimes, there are always the annoying Tarrs to deal with. These gluttonous creatures will cause havoc for other Slimes, and if a slime on a player’s farm eats the wrong plort, it will become a Tarr itself, causing chaos for the player’s farm.

This fun mashup between Slime Rancher and Among Us by Reddit user GasterDoggo is a reminder that a Tarr can show up at any moment. Those Slimes may look sweet and innocent on the outside, but players need to beware. Any one of them could end up turning on their pen mates if players don’t know what they’re doing. Pink is sus.

5 Spot The Difference Between A Mudkip and an Axolotl mob.

This is a play on the popular meme template from the NBC sitcom, The Office, in which Pam asks her new manager to spot the difference between two pictures, only to tell the person filming the fictional documentary about Dunder Mifflin Paper Company that “they’re the same picture.” This template has been used to poke fun when there is very little difference between the two subjects.

In this case, the two images presented are the water Pokemon, Mudkip, and the axolotl mob introduced in part one of Minecraft’s Caves and Cliffs update released in June 2021. It would be hard to blame the manager for calling them the same picture. The axolotl functions much like a Pokemon, being tamable and capable of fending off enemies in underwater encounters. Unfortunately, the axolotl is also a picky eater.

4 Stare Into the Slime Abyss

Sometimes, when one stares into the abyss, the abyss stares back. It even shows up in some unexpected places, like in Slime Rancher, when facing this particular Largo Slime that is a hybrid of a pink slime and a rock slime.

In this image from Reddit user axolotl_bruh, the Slime is juxtaposed with an image of Jeff the Killer, a meme that first appeared in a 2007 YouTube video and later became a popular subject on the CreepyPasta forums. It is hard not to notice the uncanny resemblance between the two, with their thickly lined, wide eyes and their featureless faces. In this context, the slime borders on becoming a Lovecraftian entity, gazing at the horror of the unknown.

3 Luigi Says Kill the Escaping Mobs

The world of Minecraft offers the opportunity to become a digital agriculturalist, including rearing passive mobs such as sheep and pigs. If any of them end up slipping through a hole in the fence, it can be a nuisance to get them back inside the pen.

In this meme posted by Reddit user Enter8909, Mario and Luigi, the Super Mario Brothers, offer two different approaches to this situation. Mario prefers to let the animals roam for a bit, citing that they have been cooped up for so long, that they could use some time to stretch their legs. Luigi, of the infamous Luigi death stare, is not so merciful. Unfortunately, according to the comments, many seem to side with Luigi.

2 Bee Mob, But It’s Bee Movie

When the bee mob came to Minecraft in 2019, it was inevitable that Bee Movie memes would spawn from it. The infamous DreamWorks animated movie starring and co-written by comedian Jerry Seinfeld has become a meme all on its own, gaining notoriety for its absurdity, including the awkward romance between a human and a bee.

This meme, from a compilation by YouTube account Meme Archive, brings a whole new level of horror to Minecraft, pasting the awkward face of Bee Movie protagonist Barry B. Benson onto one of the bee mobs, venturing into uncanny valley territory. An addition that was meant to raise awareness about the importance of bees in the ecosystem is now asking players if they like jazz.

1 Mobs Work Too Hard

In reality, mobs can sometimes live pretty tough lives. They can wander around aimlessly, waiting for an enemy or fellow NPC to come around for them to either make some chaos or just give them someone to talk to. Just take this poor Draugr from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, posted by Reddit user TBU51.

He has been wandering among the undead for so long that it barely even phases him anymore. So when he tells the player that “Night shift is pretty easy” and he is only twenty-four years old, it is a warning to players that the night shift is a soulless drudge, even if they do have the shout of the Dragonborn. The fact that he looks so decrepit should also warn of the toll that this quest will take on players.
