For those unfamiliar with Handsome Squidward, the character was introduced in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode “The Two Faces of Squidward.” After SpongeBob accidentally slams a door in the face of his grumpy co-worker, the surgery to fix the damage turns out to be a bit too successful. With Squidward becoming incredibly attractive, the episode has stuck with many fans of the show. Further, Handsome Squidward’s unnaturally good looks make him a perfect target for character creators in video games.

Reddit user and Elden Ring player FlyByShyGuy loved Handsome Squidward enough to play through the entire game as the character, with blue skin, a muscular body, and a chiseled jawline all coming together to make the look work. However, they were not the only player to have this idea, as another Elden Ring fan went out of their way to become Handsome Squidward. While their version of the character wears more clothes, as they don the bulky Godskin Noble armor, both characters look the part.

Instead of jumping into a fight, the two Handsome Squidwards pull out the Envoy’s Horn weapon. Clearly meant to represent Squidward’s clarinet, an instrument he is always playing poorly on the show, the players were clearly fully committed to the joke. Once the two Handsome Tarnished have their horns out, they begin to use them, with FlyByShyGuy saying that the instruments are being played “in E Minor.” Another great reference to SpongeBob SquarePants and a popular scene where Patrick sleeps through Squidward’s performance, there is yet another thing to love about this post.

Funnily enough, this is not the first time two of the same characters have interacted within the Lands Between. Recently, a Redditor shared an image that showed two versions of Kratos interacting, highlighting how surprising the game’s multiplayer interactions can be. Alongside over 1,000 upvotes, commenters were quick to quote some famous SpongeBob lines. For instance, Reddit user herbert-earp jokingly asks if rowa fruit is an instrument, while Bright-Fold-3317 quotes the bullies at the bar from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. GarbageGroveFish has a different take, though, dubbing the sight of two Handsome Squidwards playing the Envoy’s Horn “nightmare fuel.”

The clip is a hilarious reminder of what can be done with Elden Ring’s character creator. Though there is still room for improvement, players can do a lot with the tools FromSoftware has provided, and Handsome Squidward is just one of many possibilities.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
