However, Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s lasting popularity is also due to the fact that players are free to experiment and create with nearly anything their character can get their hands on. One such player combined creativity and invention and came up with a new form of entertainment in their game, and it seems the community is eager to join in.

Cyanide_Felix took to Reddit to show off their new game within the game. Cyanide_Felix came up with the idea of recreating a ring for players to fight against each other, Sumo wrestling style. For those not in the know, Sumo wrestling tasks competitors with successfully getting their opponent out of the ring. Leaving the ring typically means a loss, and Cyanide_Felix came up with the perfect way to implement this restriction: through pitfalls.
In Cyanide_Felix’s video, the stage is set. A small ring has been created with two lines, indicating where either player should stand. Neither player is allowed to use items; once the match begins, their sole goal is to push the other player out. It’s definitely lacking some of the more iconic elements of Sumo, as there’s no way for the players to actually grapple with one another. However, victory is still entirely possible, as the competitors furiously bump into each other in an effort to push the other out. Cyanide_Felix is finally pushed far enough out of the ring to trigger the barrier of pitfall traps, indicating the match has been won.
While it would be easy to limit this kind of thing to just playing with friends, Cyanide_Felix has used this game and others in tournaments on their own island. Visitors use their Dodo Code to travel to Cyanide_Felix’s island, and then they can partake in the tournament. In the tournament the Sumo match was created for, the winner walked away with ten million Bells.
Now that Nintendo is no longer planning on bringing additional content to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s events and creations like these that will keep the game alive and thriving in the months and years to come. Thankfully, many comments indicate that players are interested in attending Cyanide_Felix’s events, showing that the fandom is still active and doing well.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
