A recent video shows a player being chased across their island by wasps, desperately attempting to escape the pursuing insects. The player desperately turns to their fellow islanders for help, finally being caught by the wasps and being stung right next to Animal Crossing: New Horizons character Isabelle, who turns and fires a confetti firework directly into the player’s face.

The video was posted by Reddit user LuliLaj, who believes that Isabelle may have intended to shoot her. The video seems to line up with that statement, as Isabelle turns and fires at the exact moment the wasps attack. This leads to a hilarious coincidental moment where it appears Isabelle adds injury to more injury, joining the wasps in attacking LuliLaj.
Reddit users flooded the comments under the video with jokes about Isabelle’s party-themed punishment. One user commented about Isabelle’s time in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, pointing out that Isabelle indeed used one of her smash attacks (a blast of confetti) to knock LuliLaj out. Another said that Isabelle had been affected by spending too much time with her best friend Doom Guy from Doom Eternal. Other users joked that Isabelle’s violence was warranted, as LuliLaj was rudely interrupting her party on what might be her only day off of the year.
Considering Isabelle’s work-life balance, it makes sense she was bound to lose her cool at some point. That cheapskate Animal Crossing: New Horizons character Tom Nook has everyone on the island under his thumb through either debt or work, and Isabelle is perhaps the most poorly treated resident. Players can find her hard at work almost all hours of the day, every day, year round. Like Bob Cratchitt convincing Ebenezer Scrooge to give him Christmas day off, somehow Isabelle convinced the capitalist raccoon to give her the day off for the New Year’s party. However, when LuliLaj crashed the party with a swarm of wasps, Isabelle decided she had had enough, and blasted LuliLaj with confetti. Perhaps it was an overreaction on Isabelle’s part, but one can understand why she might be a tad unhinged.
This moment was funny enough without added context, but considering Isabelle’s Smash Bros. background and her strange but cute friendship with Doom Guy, seeing her blast LuliLaj in the face is absolutely hilarious. The clip should serve as a lesson for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players, showing them not to cross Isabelle on her day off.
