In High on Life’s final moments, the bounty hunter will be given an impossible task. Garmatuous has been defeated for the moment, and in his unconscious state, there’s only one option to take him down for good. After the first beat down, a bomb was placed inside of him, and now it needs to be detonated…manually. Kenny offers to make the ultimate sacrifice, completing the full circle of his redemption arc, but that’s not necessarily the way it has to go down. What happens if another Gatlian is selected for this sacrifice?

Which Gatlian Should Make The Sacrifice?

Swapping weapons at the moment before the commitment is going to be a worthwhile endeavor, even if the player is already planning to sacrifice Kenny. Each Gatlian has unique dialogue about being the odd one out, and the vocal performances during this dance of weapon swapping is a treat for all fans of the stellar cast’s work thus far.

Once the time has come to make a decision, the key to unlocking the achievement ‘Playing Favorites’ is choosing any Gatlian other than Kenny. Once the player has decided the Gatlian to sacrifice, simply approach and interact with Garmantuous’s–er–opening.

This is a sacrifice, so it is natural to assume the decision will have dire consequences that remove the selected Gatlian from the game. However, no matter which Gatlian is selected, the ending is almost entirely the same.

Each gun will manually detonate the explosive and be presumed dead by the cast before falling from the sky. They may look a little worse for wear, but they all miraculously survive the explosion. In the post-game, they do not mention the choice (and in the case of Lezduit, they may not even be there at all), so there’s no need to fear any uncomfortable tension at the party.

The only distinct difference in each of these endings is the High on Life dialogue which does adjust slightly depending on the selected Gatlian. ‘Playing Favorites’ will automatically be unlocked by selecting any gun other than Kenny for the sacrifice, and it has no repercussions on the story at large, at least right now. Still, if DLC or a sequel does come to High on Life, it is safe to assume that the Gatlians may have some choice words.

High on Life is available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
