In a recent video from the YouTube channel Did You Know Gaming, it seems that there were numerous things that were cut from the quarter of a century old Metal Gear Solid entry. Known for wanting to inject a lot of interesting ideas, Easter eggs, or fourth wall breaking aspects, Kojima has said that he originally wanted the game’s protagonist to be able to keep pet rats. The story goes, according to the video, that seeing as rats play a fairly significant role in the game, the Japanese director wanted them to be even more important.

He said that rats added a sense of reality, with the possibility of letting players name individual rats There’s actually a reference to this in the fourth game, in which Snake, during an optional codec conversation, refers to the rats as his “friends.” There was also a rat-based Easter egg in the game as well. However, like a lot of cut content from other Metal Gear Solid titles, the extra significance of the rats was removed before the game was published.
Throughout the industry, the celebrated developer is known for his unique take on the gaming world, using his love of film to create some of the most intriguing video game stories out there. His work has even earned him accolades, with the Japanese government granting Hideo Kojima the Award for Fine Art, particularly for his work on the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding.
While his name is no longer attached to the Metal Gear franchise anymore, with the most recent non-Kojima release bombing, the series still contains some of the best espionage video games ever, particularly with reference to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. While things have moved on since the PlayStation era release, it’s still held aloft as a classic stealth game, and it’s interesting to find out all the trivia about this beloved entry.
