Kojima is by no means a newcomer to the podcast scene, as he hosted his first podcast as early as 2005. This current iteration grew from a more recent Japan-only project that garnered worldwide interest. In collaboration with Spotify, Kojima Productions is bringing that now to listeners around the world. While we might hear Kojima’s take on specific upcoming games, like hopefully a sneak preview into the setting of the rumored Death Stranding 2, the podcast aims to present listeners with a more personal picture of the master.
The first 25-minute episode of Brain Structure, titled “Dive into the Brain of Hideo Kojima,” was released today. In this episode, Kojima talks about where the idea for Metal Gear came from and how Solid Snake was created. It also celebrates the 35th anniversary of Metal Gear, first developed for the MSX in 1987. The podcast that was announced at Gamescom just a couple of weeks ago will also include guests from many walks of professional life. While it was announced that business, technology, and entertainment personalities will make an appearance, no names have been revealed.
According to Kojima, his unique workflow includes working on all aspects of his games simultaneously, instead of focusing on one specific task at a time. In his view, this is close to how Pixar operates. In fact, occasionally Kojima praises his favorite movies online, as he is intimately influenced by movies and has a huge soft spot for them. One can imagine that at least some of his guests are going to be famous movie creators. The first episode is now available on Spotify and subsequent episodes are released weekly on Thursdays at 9 PM JST. For each episode, there’s an original Japanese and a dubbed English version available.
